Wilson Endorses 2 in Race, but . . .

Share

Gov. Pete Wilson on Friday endorsed Madge Schaefer of Thousand Oaks in the 37th Assembly District after previously endorsing Oxnard Mayor Nao Takasugi in the same Republican primary race.

Schaefer, however, promptly rejected the governor’s endorsement, saying she wants to maintain her political independence. “An offer like this one is a very heady experience. But the price is too high,” Schaefer said.

There are seven GOP candidates seeking the primary nomination in the 37th District race on Tuesday. Wilson has endorsed 18 Assembly Republican primary candidates in races throughout the state as part of his campaign to take over voting control of the Assembly from Democrats.
