Oxnard Procter & Gamble Plant Now 40% Complete

Expansion of the Oxnard plant of Procter & Gamble Paper Products Co. is 40% complete and should be finished ahead of schedule by early 1993, according to company spokesman Bob Paulger.

“We’ve probably saved two months and about $2 million in costs because of the efficiency of city personnel who processed our permits,” Paulger said.

The number of employees expected to be hired as part of the expansion has been raised 10%, to 220, he said. The plant’s payroll will increase more than $7 million annually.

“Most of the new people are already aboard and undergoing training,” Paulger said. He said about 600 people will be working at the facility when the $100-million project is completed. The first phase of the new operation is scheduled to start production this summer.

Key to the expansion is installation of a second paper machine, doubling the plant’s production of Bounty paper towels and Charmin bathroom tissue. The Oxnard facility also produces Citrus Hill orange juice.
