Education Budget Cuts
Teachers are the vital link between a community’s dreams for the future, and the young people who may bring those dreams to fruition. Los Angeles’ public schoolteachers took another direct hit as we learned what the Board of Education proposes to do about its budget crisis (May 15).
Major salary cuts, even larger classes, longer and fewer school days, less preparation time, fewer teaching materials, all amid the campaign to “Rebuild L.A.” What an incredible juxtaposition.
If we treat our schoolchildren and their teachers so horrendously, and blatantly disregard the human factors that facilitate effective education, then what kind of future Los Angeles are we rebuilding, and for whom?
