Toddler Crawls Into Family Spa and Drowns
A 22-month-old girl drowned Wednesday in a spa, authorities said.
Bryanna Rodriguez was pronounced dead at Garden Grove Hospital shortly before noon, according to coroner’s deputies.
She apparently woke from a nap with her mother and crawled into the spa at her home in the 10200 block of Orangewood Avenue. Her mother, awakened by a phone call, found the toddler in the water about 11:05 a.m., fire officials said. It is not known how long the girl had been in the water. Paramedics said she was not breathing when they arrived and did not regain consciousness.
Fire Capt. Paul Christman said, “It’s that time of year again when babies drown” because people begin uncovering their home spas and pools for summer use.
