Santa Monica : Shakespeare for Teen-Agers

Share

A five-week theater program for teen-agers from across the country, the Young People’s Shakespeare Company, will be offered at Crossroads School beginning June 29.

Now in its third year, the summer conservatory enables high school students to study acting, voice, movement and theater history within the context of the Elizabethan playwright’s world and words. Professionals from such organizations as Lincoln Center, the Mark Taper Forum and San Diego’s Old Globe will be on staff, and students will have an opportunity to hear the period’s music and perform its dances, as well as try fencing, stage combat, juggling and acrobatics.

They will learn how to make Elizabethan English accessible to modern audiences, culminating in a public performance of scenes from eight Shakespeare plays.
