PLATFORM : Commonality

Under the guise of multiculturalism, racial pride and feminism, a growing tide of separatism embodied by self-interest is threatening to undermine our allegiance to a United States that is “one country, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

Many blacks are asking who is to represent their interests without Jesse Jackson as a presidential candidate. Millions of Latinos are demanding better representation, and in Los Angeles, geographical boundaries are re-created to help them achieve greater political power. Women, too, are eager to see one of their own to represent the feminist point of view. And we cannot forget the gay community. Surely they, too, must be represented.

If we are to remain a state that is united, then we must seek and promote the elements of commonality that unite us instead of the differences that fragment us.

Political agendas should not be determined by race, religion, ethnicity or gender. Nor should they seek to serve any particular interest group. A just and equitable political agenda is generated by the humanity within us, and will be of benefit for all Americans.
