South Pasadena : Fining Hosts of Loud Parties
- Share via
The City Council hopes to put a damper on excessively loud parties by lightening offenders’ wallets.
The proposed ordinance, tentatively approved Wednesday on a 5-0 vote, would allow the police to fine the host of any party or other gathering that prompts two police visits on disturbance complaints.
Police Chief Thomas Mahoney told the council that hosts of the offending parties would be warned of a possible fine on the first police visit. If a second visit is required, the hosts would be billed for the cost of the officers’ deployment, Mahoney said.
The fines could range from $50 to several hundred dollars, depending on how much time police spend on the call, Capt. Mike Ward said.
The council is scheduled for a final vote on the matter at its June 17 meeting.
