Clinton Buys 30 Minutes on NBC to Air Forum
Democrat Bill Clinton has bought 30 minutes of prime time Friday night on NBC to broadcast what his campaign says will be the first of a series of “America Speaks” town hall meetings, allowing the probable Democratic presidential nominee to “take his message directly to the voters.”
The forum is scheduled from 8 to 8:30 p.m. in Pittsburgh, Pa., said Dee Dee Myers, Clinton’s campaign press secretary.
“The time has been bought and paid for,” she said, adding that the cost will be in the range of “several hundred thousand dollars.”
During the forum, the Arkansas governor will “field questions from undecided voters in Pittsburgh,” Myers said.
“It’s unprecedented and something that candidates have not risked doing,” added David Wilhelm, Clinton’s campaign manager.
The announcement comes amid reports that Texas billionaire Ross Perot, a likely independent candidate for President, also is shopping around to purchase time on one of the networks.
