Family Channel Features a Double Bill for Followers of Madeline’s Adventures

In Madeline’s Rescue, the fourth in the series of six Family Channel animated specials, the charming little Parisian schoolgirl is rescued from falling into the Seine by a dog named Genevieve. Madeline decides to reward the pooch by giving Genevieve a new home at her boarding school.

But on the day of the annual inspection, Genevieve is kicked out. Madeline’s teacher, Miss Clavel, and Madeline’s 11 school chums go out to find Genevieve. When the dog finally returns, she brings along 12 bundles of joy for the whole school to enjoy.

Before “Madeline’s Rescue,” The Family Channel is repeating Madeline and the Bad Hat. In that episode, Pepito, the mischievous son of the Spanish ambassador, moves next door to the boarding school and goes to extremes to get attention. One day he goes too far, and Madeline teaches Pepito the error of his ways.

Speaking of Lassie, the beautiful collie headlines the two-hour movie Lassie: A New Beginning (Sunday 2-4 p.m. Nickelodeon). This time around, Lassie travels to California with Chip and his sister in search of their only living relative, Uncle Stuart. Along the way, Lassie befriends a poodle and helps rescue Chip from a mountain cliff. For ages 4-10.

Goofy’s Salute to Father (Tuesday 8-9 p.m. Disney Channel) doesn’t spill the beans on what type of animal Goofy really is, but the beloved Disney character does give up his carefree bachelor ways to become a responsible husband and daddy. For ages 7-13.

It’s not just any Wednesday this week on Nickelodeon. It’s Wacky, Wild & Crazy Wednesday (5-8 p.m.). Nick is airing six half-hour episodes of its popular series “Wild & Crazy Kids,” featuring children participating in outrageous sports and stunts. For ages 6-13.

Showtime’s We All Have Tales (Thursday 5-5:30 p.m.) animated series concludes this month with “Finn McCoul,” an old Irish folk story about a tough guy whose wife must save the day when a brutish giant challenges Finn to a fight. “SCTV” veteran Catherine O’Hara narrates the tale. For ages 5-11.

Joss Ackland (“Lethal Weapon 2”), Helen Bonham-Carter (“Howards End,” “Room With a View”) and comic Hugh Laurie supply the voices for Brown Bear’s Wedding (Friday 6-6:30 p.m. Disney Channel), an animated adaptation of the book by Martin Beck and Marie Henry. One day, Brown Bear, who lives a quiet, independent life in his mountain log cabin, is smitten with beautiful White Bear when he sees her skating on a lake. It’s a rocky road to romance, though, as Brown Bear fumbles every attempt to win her heart. For ages 5-10.

A Busch Gardens Seaworld Summer Safari (Friday 8-9 p.m. CBS; Saturday 1-2 p.m. Nickelodeon; June 15, 7-8 p.m., and June 20, 11 a.m.-noon Family Channel) finds John Forsythe, Sarah Purcell, Marilyn McCoo, Danny Pintauro, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Chelsea Ford and Stacey Keenan exploring Busch Gardens in Tampa and Sea World in Orlando to learn about different animals and ways to preserve the environment. For all ages.

Fans of Marguerite Henry’s beloved children’s book “Misty of Chincoteague,” won’t be disappointed with Misty (Saturday 12-1:30 p.m. Disney Channel), the heartwarming 1961 feature adaptation of her novel. David Ladd and Pam Smith star as two youngsters living on a small island off the coast of Virginia who find a wild horse and try to tame her. For ages 5-12.

In the three-part miniseries, Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian and the Voyage of the Dawn Treader (Saturday 6-7 p.m. Disney Channel), young Prince Caspian, heir to the kingship of Narnia, discovers his uncle is planning to kill him and escapes to the forbidden forest. Jean-Marc Perret stars as young Caspian in the action-adventure based on C.S. Lewis’ classic. The series continues over the next two Saturdays. For ages 5-13.
