A man shot to death near Orangewood Avenue and the Southern Pacific railroad tracks was identified Monday as Jesse R. Jabonero of Rosemead.

Jabonero, 25, died of a gunshot wound to the head, according to an autopsy report. A 17-year-old youth from La Puente also was injured in the gang-related attack about 4:40 a.m. Sunday, but the youth’s wounds did not appear to be life-threatening, Sheriff’s Lt. Richard J. Olson said.

Deputies were near Western Avenue and Seaboard Circle when they heard several gunshots close to the train tracks. They found the two victims lying on the west side of the tracks, about 100 feet south of Orangewood Avenue, Olson said.

The victims were walking near the tracks with two young women when two unknown men began shooting at them, the teen-age survivor told investigators. The youth was not identified by police.
