Rancho Santiago to Study Staff Training

Share

Rancho Santiago College has received a $60,000 grant to study whether staff development seminars result in improved student learning.

The college will lead a consortium of five community colleges in Southern California--including Orange Coast, Golden West and Saddleback colleges in Orange County--in studying staff development programs on their campuses.

The colleges received the grant from the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office, said Henry Kertman, spokesman for Rancho Santiago.

The participating colleges serve more than 100,000 students with about 3,500 faculty, 2,000 staff and 200 management employees.

The staff development classes to be evaluated include workshops in teaching English as a second language, computer skills and communication.

Kertman said the study may help colleges nationwide, especially those with diverse student populations, improve the education they provide.
