Rams Give Younger a New Job

Paul (Tank) Younger, whose NFL and Ram career has spanned parts of six decades as a player, scout and executive, Monday was named the team’s director of player relations, a new position.

Younger, 63, will work with Ram players in planning their lives after football, continuing their educations and other off-the-field matters such as career and financial planning, according to a statement issued by owner Georgia Frontiere.

Since 1987, Younger had served as an administrative assistant in the team’s front office, conducting some contract negotiations and consulting on personnel decisions.

Previously, he was an assistant general manager for the San Diego Chargers for 12 seasons, and before that was a player and a scout for the Rams.

“I’m excited about this new job because I want to find out what it’s going to be all about,” Younger said Monday. “I’ve held down several positions in the league, and I have always done basically the same thing, you know what I mean?”

Younger says he anticipates getting involved with established league programs that attempt to help current players avoid difficulties after their careers are over.

“There are a lot of players that may have financial problems, need some financial guidance, and I’m looking forward to trying to help steer them in the right direction,” Younger said. “I think it’s going to be a great challenge.”
