House Panel Approves Trade Bill: A House subcommittee approved a bill requiring the Bush Administration to identify countries discriminating against U.S. goods and target them for negotiations and possible retaliation. The measure, approved by the Ways and Means subcommittee on trade, would reauthorize for five years the so-called Super 301 section of the 1988 U.S. trade law. The controversial provision expired in 1990 after Washington had made use of it to put pressure on U.S. trading partners.
