California / IN BRIEF : SOLANA BEACH : Strict Anti-Smoking Measure Approved
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
The City Council voted to outlaw smoking in virtually all restaurants and public gathering places, giving the city the strictest anti-smoking ordinance in San Diego County. In addition to banning smoking in restaurants, the ordinance will restrict cigarette vending machines to places accessible only by adults and require hotel owners to set aside 50% of their rooms for nonsmokers. The law also will require offices to be smoke-free, except in designated smoking rooms equipped with high-tech ventilation systems.
