The director of transportation programs for the Arizona city of Glendale was hired Tuesday to oversee soon-to-expand public bus service in the Antelope Valley, officials said.
William Budlong, who has run transportation programs for the Arizona city since 1985, will be the first transit director for the recently formed Antelope Valley Transit Authority, a cooperative venture between Lancaster, Palmdale and Los Angeles County.
Budlong’s hiring was announced by the three-member board of the agency, which has assumed control of the valley’s public bus programs from the county. The agency plans to expand service and raise fares on the fixed-route bus system starting June 29. Budlong will earn $60,000 annually.
