BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : ANGELS

The Angels’ struggles haven’t prompted Senior Vice President Whitey Herzog to take apart his pitching staff. Although he’d love to acquire a power hitter, he said it won’t be at the expense of a pitcher.
“This wouldn’t be the time to trade them now, not with their ERAs,” he said, laughing. “I don’t think we’ll do that. . . . Hitting’s funny. Look at (the White Sox’s) lineup. They didn’t get any runs for 12 games. And look at Kansas City the first month of the season.”
He’s continuing trade talks with other general managers, but said, “Superstars are hard to find.”
Angel catcher Lance Parrish (torn right thumb nail) had the bandage removed but was unavailable for the second consecutive game. . . . Joe Grahe, recalled from Edmonton Sunday, gave reporters a jolt when he sat in the clubhouse with a bandage on his elbow before Tuesday’s game. “I just wanted to fit in,” he said. Grahe said applying heat on his elbow was his habit between starts. He pitched the final 1 1/3 innings Tuesday, giving up one hit.
