The city is spending money to call attention to itself. The City Council has approved $1.5 million worth of decorative landscaping at the Artesia (91) Freeway entrance to Cerritos Towne Center, an office, hotel and retail development that will house the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts. The council also has awarded a $38,240 contract to create and install three illuminated city entrance monument signs.

The Towne Center design will feature a 15-foot decorative rock landscape, three tiers of ponds, 15-foot waterfalls and geysers. The waterfalls and geysers will be lighted at night. Construction will begin this summer and is scheduled for completion in December.

The concrete, 10-foot-tall entrance signs will be in center medians on Bloomfield Avenue south of Alondra Boulevard, Artesia Boulevard west of Valley View Avenue and Bloomfield north of Del Amo Boulevard. The signs are expected to be in place by the end of summer.
