* Edwards’ Theaters purchased the land under its 15,000-square-foot theater complex in Fashion Island from the Irvine Co. for $5.4 million.

* The Newport Beach law firm Stradling, Yocca, Carlson & Rauth chose to renew its lease in the Irvine Co.’s 660 Newport Center Drive office building. The 10-year, $20-million lease includes a 16,000-square-foot expansion, bringing the office’s square footage to 64,000.

* Prudential Home Mortgage Co. signed a $2-million lease for 20,000 square feet in the Bank of The West Tower in Costa Mesa’s South Coast Plaza Town Center. Prudential is consolidating its Irvine offices at the new location.

* Denver-based LeisureTime Resources Inc., a real estate and financial services firm, opened an office in Irvine.

* San Diego interior design firm PARISI opened an office in Newport Beach.

* Ludovise & Associates Inc., a Newport Beach mechanical engineering firm, was honored by Southern California Edison and the California Energy Commission for its energy-efficient design of the Betty Lou Lamoreaux Juvenile Justice Center in Orange.

* Former California Supreme Court Justice Marcus Kaufman will speak June 17 at a seminar on distressed property sponsored by Manufacturers Hanover Bank, 4 p.m. at the Irvine Hyatt Hotel.
