SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

The search for a Blythe man wanted in two separate attempted homicides in the San Joaquin Valley ended Thursday with his arrest in Santa Paula, authorities said.

Daniel Perez Hernandez, 38, was arrested without incident just after 3:30 p.m. at a relative’s house in the 600 block of Sycamore Street, said Santa Paula Police Cmdr. Mark Hanson. He said Hernandez was believed to have been staying with relatives for several weeks.

Hernandez, a former member of the defunct Nuestra Familia prison gang, did not resist arrest, Hanson said.

Besides two warrants for his arrest for assaults, he was also sought on warrants for vandalism in Blythe and for violation of state parole, said Santa Paula Police Sgt. Gary Marshall.

Hernandez had previously served time in state prison for another attempted murder, said Kings County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jack Amoroso. “He’s a pretty violent guy,” Amoroso said. “We were real pleased to hear he had been put behind bars again.”

Hernandez was involved in two stabbings in Kings County, a largely rural county south of Fresno, Amoroso said.

He allegedly stabbed a victim in the chest in November near Kettleman City, and a warrant for assault with a deadly weapon was issued Nov. 15, Amoroso said.

In Hanford, the county’s largest city, Hernandez was implicated in the knifing of another man after an argument, said Hanford Police Sgt. David Scott. The attack outside the victim’s home occurred a month ago, and an arrest warrant was issued June 1, Scott said.

Santa Paula police arrested Hernandez after Kings County Sheriff’s Detective Karren Sandusky tracked him down and notified Santa Paula police, Amoroso said.

Hernandez was taken to Ventura County Jail, where he was held pending his transfer to Kings County, police said.
