Review of ‘Far and Away’ Gave Him a Sharp Stitch in the Side

I was pleased to see an analysis of Johanna Johnston’s costume design for the period film “Far and Away” in the pages of The Times (“Costumes Far Better Off Doffed,” May 29). That is until I read the article.

While any review or critique does express the opinion of the individual writing the article, one would hope that it would address the concern for time, place and action of the project with an awareness that recognizes the artistry of costume design as differentiated from retail fashion design.

The color, silhouette and fit of clothes from the late 19th Century are different than the clothes of today.
