Voters Hurl a Few More Bricks After Dust Settles in Dornan-Ryan Battle

So now I’m a “lesbian spear chucker.” For the record, Mr. (Robert K.) Dornan, I’ve been happily married longer than you’ve been in office. I’m raising two children who have never seen me chuck a spear.

But isn’t it interesting that you chose a word that in other contexts has been used as a racial epithet? Funny it should pop out of your mouth. But then so many ugly words do.

Also for the record: Every bit of my spare time over the last few weeks went to fight for Judy Ryan. I rang door bells, phoned strangers and drove all over the district. Why? Because she’s pro-choice.

Now that you’ve won, this is what I’m afraid will happen:

1) Abortion will eventually be banned.

2) Women will start to die again.

It seems to be in your nature to dismiss those constituents who don’t fit your religious plan for our society. You probably won’t notice the large number of people who did vote for Judy Ryan. But I think that’s a political mistake. Everyone knows the pendulum swings both ways. Separation of church and state will again become a popular notion. Unfortunately, it will probably come only after people’s lives have been destroyed.

So why do I continue to struggle? Why don’t I just ride it out and wait for the change to come? Because, unlike you, Mr. Dornan, I care about the families who will mourn their daughters. I’m proud to be a pro-choice activist.
