COUNTYWIDE : Agency to Offer Free Meals to Children
The federal government will offer free meals for children 18 and under at eight city parks in Anaheim and at one in Stanton on weekdays beginning Monday.
The Summer Food Service Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, will offer breakfasts at Ponderosa Park and the Jeffrey-Lynne Community Center in Anaheim from 7 to 8 a.m.
Lunches will be served in Anaheim from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Audre Plaza, Little Peoples, Manzanita, Chaparral, Edison, Maxwell and Reid parks, as well as Ponderosa Park and the Jeffrey-Lynne Community Center. In Stanton, lunches will be served at Hollenbeck Park.
The program runs through Sept. 4. No meals will be served July 6 in observance of Independence Day.
Food items will include burritos, chicken nuggets, pizza, sandwiches, fruit, vegetables and milk.
The parks are in lower-income areas, but there is no enrollment or income level requirements. Officials expect about 250 children to be served at each site daily.
