A Canoga Park man convicted of attacking his wife and daughter with a sledgehammer was sentenced Monday in San Fernando Superior Court to two consecutive terms of life in prison.

Jwo Lee, 75, was convicted in May on two charges each of attempted murder and aggravated mayhem for attacking his wife Man Hwa Lee, 52, and daughter, Grace Lee, 31, in August. He was also found guilty of the special circumstance that he inflicted great bodily injury. That added six years to the sentence, which he must serve before beginning the life sentences, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Bernadette de Barajas.

Lee would be eligible for parole in about 15 years, said Deputy Public Defender Jimmy MacDonald.

According to court records, Lee said he attacked the women because he believed that his wife was trying to poison him, and also because he thought that his wife was trying to get his daughter involved in prostitution. However, de Barajas said Lee attacked them because they would not submit to his “autocratic rule.”

Both women have recovered from their injuries, authorities said.
