Digital Buys System for TV Newsroom Computers: Digital Equipment Corp. said it bought Basys Automation Systems from Britain’s Independent Television News for an undisclosed sum. The company, best known for its vast computer networks, said Basys will strengthen its hand as the broadcasting and computer industries move toward high-definition television and multimedia computing. Basys provides broadcast newsrooms with computer automation systems that link scripts, auto-cues, library data and wire services. Its equipment is used in more than 400 broadcast newsrooms worldwide. Basys, based near London, will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Digital.
