SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : Saddleback Trustees Approve Contract

Share

The Saddleback Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees formally approved a new two-year contract Monday with the district’s 1,200 teachers and guidance counselors.

Under the new contract, teachers and counselors in the financially strapped district will accept a salary and benefits freeze retroactive to July, 1991, and extending to June 30, 1993.

The teachers and counselors overwhelmingly approved the contract in a special vote last week, ending a yearlong stalemate that reached a peak in recent weeks when several hundred students at three local schools walked out of class in support of their teachers.

Both employees and district officials have said they are satisfied with the contract, given the district’s severe budget problems.
