Ben Johnson qualified for the Olympics in the 100 meters by finishing second in the Canadian trials Saturday and said he won’t miss Carl Lewis in Barcelona.

“I don’t want to see Carl Lewis anymore,” he said.

Johnson won the Olympic 100 meters at Seoul in 1988, but the gold medal was stripped from him after he tested positive for steroids. Lewis was awarded the medal.

Johnson, 30, beat the qualifying standard of 10.28 seconds with a time of 10.16 seconds. National champion Bruny Surin won in 10.13 seconds.

“It’s really no surprise to me because everyone’s running fast in America,” Johnson said of Lewis’s failure to qualify for the Olympics in the 100.

Johnson, who had run a slow 10.43 in Portugal earlier this month, said he was aware there would be renewed suspicion of drug use by him.
