No Excuses, Please, for Those Who Don’t Vote
- Share via
I read Tim Rutten’s “The Logic Behind L.A. Politics Begins at the Ballot Box” (June 4) with interest. After quoting numerous statistics showing that the minority residents of Los Angeles do not take the time or effort to register or to vote, Rutten makes a giant leap to come to the conclusion that, somehow, since I am a well-educated white person, this is all my fault.
Stop trying to make excuses for the lack of involvement on the part of many by blaming those that do their part in making the system work. No one is guaranteed their views will be adopted, only that they will be considered.
If people don’t like the way the system is functioning they need to get off their backsides and work to change it. Every citizen in this country is given the right to participate. If they choose not to, it is not my fault; it is theirs.
