O.C. PLATFORM : Right to Speak Out

Share

I think our constitutional rights supersede any rules imposed by an employer. The right to freedom of speech for all Americans is basic and guaranteed. For a company to attempt to curb its workers’ speech, even if that speech is critical of the employer, is an invasion of personal liberty.

If an employee violates the confidentiality of an employer’s legal business interests, or threatens national security or public safety by divulging classified information, then restraint might be merited.

But if management is permitted to control or gag workers in matters of controversy, an information gap is created. Communication is stifled. Truth is concealed.

Freedom of thought and the absolute freedom to voice opinion, political or otherwise, is the foundation on which America was built. No paycheck is worth losing this fundamental right.
