Schieke Retains Lead in Cross-Country Race

Helmut Schieke, a 52-year-old from Germany, and Al Howie, a 46-year-old Scot, led the Runner’s World Trans America Footrace into Victorville on Sunday, the second day of the cross-country race.
Schieke and Howie finished the 46.8-mile leg from Rancho Cucamonga to Victorville together in 7 hours 20 minutes 7 seconds. Schieke leads the overall with a time of 14:45:48. Howie is 13 minutes 34 seconds behind in second.
David Warady of Huntington Beach, the only Orange County entrant, is in fifth place, 1 hour 43 minutes 57 seconds behind Schieke.
