‘Sunday’ Changes: Mary Alice Williams and Garrick Utley will be replaced as co-anchors on “Sunday Today” when NBC starts its new “Saturday Today” show on Aug. 1. Network sources said that Jackie Nespral, an anchor at Univision, the Spanish-language network in Miami, is likely to replace Williams. NBC station owners have told network officials they would like to have the same anchors for the Sunday and Saturday “Today” shows. Williams, who is expecting twins in November and will go on maternity leave on Aug. 1, has had a difficult time at NBC since she was hired away from CNN. She was one of the anchors on the ill-fated “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow,” and was supplanted by Jane Pauley as the regular substitute anchor for Tom Brokaw on “NBC Nightly News.” Williams now has no assignment slated at NBC, although the network is looking for one for her. Utley will continue as anchor of the weekend editions of “Nightly News.” No word yet on who might take over for him on “Today.”
