OJAI : City Council to Hear Golf Club Proposals
Representatives of a corporation that has applied to build a private golf club east of Ojai will discuss the project and present a series of measures to lessen its potential impact at the Ojai City Council meeting tonight.
Steve Craig, a Santa Barbara-based environmental consultant who steered environmental planning for the planned Farmont Golf Course, will make the presentation to the council.
Craig said his proposals will include the possibility that employees and golfers at the club be driven to and from the course in a communal van to reduce traffic, that a park-and-ride system be implemented, and that the Farmont Corp. consider donating a 10- to 15-passenger commuter van to Ventura County, which would reduce overall traffic on California 33, the main thoroughfare to Ojai.
Although the proposed course is planned for an area outside city limits, Craig said Farmont officials are concerned about the opinions of city officials. “They’re not the decision makers on the project, but we feel we should do everything we can to get their consent,” Craig said.
The council meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at Ojai City Hall, 401 S. Ventura Ave.
