The Irvine Civic Light Opera has announced a 1992-93 season at the Irvine Barclay Theatre: “Kiss Me Kate” by Cole Porter and Sam and Bella Spewach (Sept. 10-19), “Phantom” by Arthur Kopit and Maury Yeston (March 18-27) and “Chess” by Tim Rice and Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Anderson (July 8-16, 1993).

ICLO artistic director Dan Trevino says the financially troubled company has “worked off about $5,000 of our $50,000 debt” and has reached an agreement with creditors enabling it to stage “Cabaret,” the final show of the 1991-92 season (July 9-18) at the Barclay. If all goes well with “Cabaret,” Trevino says, sets and costumes for “Chess” and “Phantom” will be rented from San Jose CLO, and from San Diego CLO for “Kiss Me Kate.” (714) 854-4646.

A comedy benefit featuring Dennis Wolfberg and Jennie McBride netted $20,000 for the Wellness Community, a Santa Ana-based program offering support services for cancer patients and their families. The June 15 event at the Irvine Improv was the third annual program featuring Wolfberg, who donates his time for the concert. “We’re very thrilled. We had a full crowd,” said Carol Blanchard, executive director of the Wellness Community.
