The anticipated reorganization of the Kings’ front office apparently is on hold.

Moments after King owner Bruce McNall held his first news conference Monday as the new chairman of the NHL’s Board of Governors, a club executive announced that there would be a news conference at the Forum Tuesday.

Later that evening, however, the news conference was rescheduled for Thursday. And now, the Kings say, it may be postponed until Friday.

Believed to be involved are Roy Mlakar, executive vice president, Rogie Vachon, general manager, and Nick Beverley, assistant general manager. The speculation is that Mlakar will move up to president, Vachon taking a new, undetermined position, and Beverley replacing Vachon.

Vachon became general manager in 1984. Beverley has been his assistant for the last two seasons.

Meanwhile, the Eric Lindros case is still without a resolution after two days of hearings in Montreal. Arbitrator Larry Bertuzzi will determine whether the New York Rangers or Philadelphia Flyers have the rights to the 19-year-old Lindros.

The Flyers said Tuesday that they made an unwritten agreement first with Marcel Aubut, president of the Nordiques, who drafted Lindros with the first overall pick a year ago. Lindros refused to sign and spent the year playing for Canada in the Canada Cup and Olympics.

The Rangers, however, claim that after the Flyers’ deal, they reached a written agreement with Aubut. The Nordiques claim the New York deal is the valid one.
