The Hispanic Playwrights Project at South Coast Repertory will present public readings of three plays: “Cocks Have Claws” by Amparo Garcia (Aug. 7 at 7:30 p.m.), “Bitter Homes and Gardens” by Luis Alfaro (Aug. 8 at 2:30 p.m.) and “Kuba” by Roger Schirra (Aug. 8 at 7:30 p.m.). The scripts, to be rehearsed in private workshops during the seventh annual HPP program (beginning July 28), were chosen by SCR’s Collaboration Laboratory from more than 80 submitted by writers from across the country. Garcia lives in Austin, Alfaro in Los Angeles, Schirra in New York. $2 to $6. (714) 957-4033.
