Narcotics officers with the Long Beach Police Department arrested four men and one woman suspected of trafficking cocaine and seized more than 55 pounds of the drug in powder form, officials said Wednesday.

Officers also seized 100 pounds of marijuana and four assault rifles, Sgt. Rick Moorbeck said.

Police described the bust, completed early Wednesday morning, as moderately sized but significant because the investigation took only a few days. They seized the drugs from residences in Lakewood, El Monte and Gardena.

The cocaine has a wholesale value of $500,000 and a street value of $2.5 million, Moorbeck said. The marijuana is worth about $200,000 to a wholesaler and almost three times that on the street, he said.

Police also seized five vehicles and about $17,000 in cash.
