ANTELOPE VALLEY : Classes for Pregnant Students Approved

Share

Antelope Valley Union High School District trustees have agreed to implement a new $1-million academic program for pregnant teen-agers that will be funded and run by the Los Angeles County Office of Education.

The trustees voted 3 to 1 Wednesday for the program, with Trustee Billy Pricer casting the dissenting vote. Trustee Charles Whiteside was on vacation.

The program, which will teach English and math along with childbirth preparation, child care and nutrition, may serve as many as 150 girls when it begins in September, said Rosalie Tosi, the district’s work experience coordinator.

The district does not now have any programs or classes for pregnant teen-agers, said board President Sophia Waugh. The program will operate at five of the district’s six campuses.
