Balanced Budget Amendment

Share

Although an amendment to the Constitution is a Draconian measure, the legislative haggling and shenanigans of the past few years leave no doubt that an amendment will be required to balance the federal budget. I’m incredulous that with a $4-trillion debt, which in more comprehensible terms is about $16,000 for every man, woman, and child in the United States, many of our lawmakers either still don’t see it or are so politically jaded they will ignore it. The only question now is how much more serious the budget crisis must become before an amendment is passed.

In my opinion, the present lack of public confidence in the U.S. economy is owed in large part to the inability to our lawmakers for the past several years to resolve the crisis, which, because of the failed amendment proposal, is now ensured to continue.
