NEWPORT BEACH : City Officials Share Their Favorite Books

Share

As part of a campaign to raise funds for library books in the Newport-Mesa Unified School District, officials in Newport Beach and Costa Mesa were asked to name their favorite childhood tale.

For City Librarian La Donna Kienitz, the choice was Dr. Seuss’s “And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street.”

Longtime school board member Roderick MacMillian cast his vote for Anna Sewell’s classic childhood story “Black Beauty.”

And maybe not so surprising, for Newport Beach Police Chief Arb Campbell and Costa Mesa Police Chief David L. Snowden, the hands-down choice was the mystery collection “The Hardy Boys Series.”

The fund-raising drive called Dollars for Scholars Drive for Literacy will continue through the end of the month. Contributions are tax-deductible and can be made to the school district’s public information office. For more information, call (714) 760-3460.
