Acupuncturists Poke Holes in Column
As president of the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a state-approved and nationally accredited degree-granting nonprofit educational program that has provided training in this field for 13 years, and as a licensed acupuncturist and member of the California Acupuncture Assn., I can assure you that standards for training and licensure in this state are very high.
The California licensed acupuncturist must document four years of academic training at an approved institution in the field of acupuncture and herbal medicine.
Candidates must complete a stringent two-part licensing exam. Although there have been problems administering the licensing exam, as well as instances of corruption, on the whole it has served as an effective guarantee of public safety.
