He’ll Run, But Only if Asked
Emulating Perot--Gary Neely, a Diamond Bar marketing executive who re-registered as an independent after losing an Assembly race as a Democrat two years ago, has announced his willingness to run for Congress if voters will draft him.
Neely, 42, who is supporting the presidential candidacy of Ross Perot, said he thinks that he could help Perot by running for Congress because he would be invited to speak at candidate forums where he could promote Perot. “The important thing to me is to get Ross Perot elected,” Neely said.
So, Neely is encouraging a petition campaign that would put him on the ballot in the 41st Congressional District along with Republican Jay C. Kim, Democrat Bob Baker, and Peace and Freedom nominee Mike Noonan. Neely must obtain 6,458 signatures of registered voters by Aug. 7 to qualify.
Neely said: “Ross Perot showed the way. I’m not telling people I’m running. I’m asking them if they want me to run. If they do, I’m interested.”
