Caltech Professor Wins Harvey Prize

Amnon Yariv, the Thomas G. Myers Professor of Electrical Engineering at Caltech, has received the 1992 Harvey Prize in Technology from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology.

Yariv, who was honored for his work in lasers and optics, has been a member of Caltech’s faculty since 1964.

The $35,000 prize is one of two Harvey awards made each year in recognition of major contributions toward human progress in science and technology, human health, literature of the Middle East or advancement of peace in the Middle East.

This year’s second prize was awarded to former Soviet President Mikhail S. Gorbachev.
