So whites are now afraid to travel through South Los Angeles, and are lunging for safety when a black man pulls alongside in his car. This is front-page news? What’s next? Minorities closely monitored by white shopkeepers (just in case)? Whites crossing the street to avoid blacks (just in case)? Does any of this sound familiar to you?

Your article has taken classic cases of racism and turned them into post-riot concerns.

Wake up and smell the burning liquor store. There is no sudden cause for these attitudes. Dignifying them in The Times as a rational response to the riots only reinforces the same baseless fears that have been in our society for too many years.
