Ross Perot’s Campaign

Share

In response to “Quayle Tries to Roll Up Score Against ‘Elite,’ ” June 23, and “Bush Says Reported Probe by Perot Is Not ‘American,’ ” June 23:

Quayle, the new Republican hatchet man, is now aiming his mudslinging at Perot, alleging that he has a “compulsion to investigate people.” The “kinder, gentler” President Bush whines that he doesn’t mind being scrutinized but “leave my kids alone.” (Neither Bush nor Quayle finds this a convenient time to remind us of their unprecedented investigations of Perot, including the business activities of Perot’s son.)

Does the current Administration expect voters to stop looking at the record? Public officials should be examined, and closely.

If President Bush doesn’t want people to see what his kids are up to, he should make sure they are not involved in financial dealings such as the S&L; fiasco that the rest of us will have to pay for, or otherwise slopping at the public trough. If Bush and Quayle want to find some real abuse of investigative powers and manipulation of the media, they should turn to their own party: Watergate, the Iran-Contra scandal and Iraqgate. Thank God for patriots like Perot and the independent news media that tries to keep us informed about what our public officials are up to.
