Stork, Samuelson Picked to U.S. Team

A pair of former area athletes have been named to the U. S. Olympic men’s volleyball team that will compete in the Barcelona Games, it was announced Tuesday in San Diego.

Jeff Stork, a Taft High graduate who played at Pepperdine, will be making his second Olympic appearance. Making the team for the first time is former Cal State Northridge standout Bob Samuelson.

Steve Timmons of Newport Beach also was selected and is the only player to return from the 1984 squad and one of six to return from the 1988 team.

Both those teams won gold medals. No team in Olympic volleyball history has won three consecutive gold medals.
