Singleton’s ‘The Champ’: John Singleton, the 24-year-old director who earned an Oscar nomination for his first film, “Boyz N the Hood,” is creating and writing a TV series for Home Box Office that will be filmed this summer in South-Central Los Angeles. The half-hour drama will be called “The Champ,” and will focus on the struggle of a black boxer growing up in the inner city. The Kushner-Locke Co. will produce the program, which will likely premiere next year.
