Pasadena : Council Rejects Tax Hikes
The City Council has rejected three tax increases that would have yielded $637,000 in revenue for the 1992-93 fiscal year.
The rates for utility users’ fees, the transient occupancy tax and the business license tax will remain stable. The council did not consider raising water and power rates during the budget negotiations last month.
The municipal code stipulates that the finance director must adjust all taxes, fees and charges on July 1 of each year to reflect changes in the Consumer Price Index. The code also says the council may reject any changes by June 30.
In a report to the council, the finance department recommended against raising the taxes after determining that the community and businesses did not support an increase.
