PAL Team Gets 2 Wins in Tournament
The San Diego Police Athletic League girls team stayed alive in the Junior Olympic national basketball tournament Wednesday with victories over Oklahoma and West Texas at Clovis, N.M.
Carlsbad High senior Vanessa Nygaard led both victories. She scored 18 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out four assists in a 78-66 victory against Oklahoma in the morning, and then scored 25 points in a 74-61 victory over West Texas at night.
Renee Demirdjian, Nygaard’s teammate at Carlsbad, had 13 points and Lorraine Watson of Monte Vista added 12 points and 13 rebounds in the morning victory.
The PAL girls, one of 12 teams left in the 48-team tournament play Utah today at 11 a.m.
