Attorney Wallace Knox has been elected president of the Los Angeles Community College District Board of Trustees, which oversees the nation’s largest two-year college system.

Retired college administrator Kenneth Washington was chosen vice president of the seven-member elected board during its annual reorganization meeting Wednesday. The votes were unanimous.

In accepting the leadership post, Knox called for a “significant increase in our commitment to strategic planning” to enable the nine-college, 120,000-student system to weather the financial storms buffeting the state, which provides about half of the district’s operating budget.
