New Library Is a Waste

Share

It is good to learn the library, along with other facilities, will be kept operational in south Oxnard. It would have been sad to have it closed just to save $250,000 yearly, a small sum.

However, the library would not be short of funds had the city of Oxnard not built a new library. The building is completely out of place in a small farming community such as Oxnard, a predominantly low-income city.

The new library, with its vast amount of open, wasted space in its center, its lack of warmth, and cold, bland appearance, is nothing but a monument to the egos of Oxnard officials and the library management staff.

I am glad the Bard Street Library--a small library with a feeling of warmth, with its excellent and highly efficient, friendly staff--will remain open.
