This Name Is Nothing New

I agree that the formation of communities such as West Hills and North Hills was motivated by elitism and a desire to increase property values.

However, this part of North Hollywood has always been known as Valley Village. Over the years, many stores along Magnolia Boulevard have been named “Valley Village . . . something.” The post office at Magnolia and Whitsett has been emblazoned with “Valley Village Station” ever since its construction in the 1950s; the 1974 edition of the Thomas Guide that I carried in my glove compartment for many years identified this neighborhood as Valley Village. For some of us in this small part of North Hollywood, recognizing our history was the motivation behind the name change, not elitism.
